In a candid new article in Men’s Health, MSNBC host Ed Schultz opens up about the evolution of his political beliefs from conservative to liberal. Schultz says there was a "series of grassroots events" that changed his life and political views. Specifically, he outlined the two main factors, which were:
- Meeting his wife Wendy – Schultz says“My wife Wendy and I met in 1997. She was managing the homeless clinic in Fargo. For one of our first dates, she says, “Come down to the Salvation Army and let’s have lunch.” I said okay, but I didn’t even know where it was. I went in there and it was all these homeless people, and a lot of them were veterans. I started talking with them and it really motivated me to start a series on veterans’ benefits, how it was rotten that we simply weren’t doing right by our veterans. That was one of those moments.
- Losing his mother to Alzheimer’s: “my mom passed away from Alzheimer’s in 2002. I saw up close how the health-care system, Medicare, all of it, functions. You go through things that have a profound effect on you. That was a big one.”
Schultz also discussed his daily grind as a radio and television host (he has his radio show from 12-3PM ET and then his show on MSNBC at 8PM ET) and how he deals with stress on the job. Check out the full article here.
