MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell and Krystal Ball weighed in on women in journalism, politics, and having it all in a recent interview with Politico's The Arena.
In regard to women gaining positions of power, Andrea told Politico, "I do see it getting better. But at the same time, covering politics, and certainly covering the business community is really tough, and will be for a while until there are more women in the upper level in both politics and finance. Having more women in journalism, covering important beats, and also having more women in all political parties in key positions, in key positions in the White House and in cabinet roles will make a difference. It’s important for boys and girls and children and young adults to become used to seeing women in major decision-making roles in business in finance and politics and government and academia."
Krystal discussed her own run for office as well as how the media tends to treat female candidates differently from their male counterparts, telling Politico, "Unfortunately there still is much more of a focus on how a woman looks, how she presents herself, what she’s wearing. While it seems like a small thing, that sort of focus on appearance and dress can really sort of subtly undermine a female candidate."
