MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts and husband Patrick Abner stepped out on the holiday red carpet this week to help the Broadway Dreams Foundation at their annual Champagne and Caroling evening in NYC at Celsius at Bryant Park.   Thomas and Patrick joined other notables including Katie Holmes , New York Giant’s Jayson Traynor and  “Real Housewives of New York City’s” Countess LuAnn de Lesseps to help raise awareness and funds for Broadway Dreams which offers scholarships to young students to pursue their love and dreams.

MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts and his husband Patrick Abner joined actress Ally Sheedy and others over Thanksgiving at the Ali Forney Center - a drop-in shelter for homeless LGBT youth. Hurricane Sandy devastated the shelter, leaving hundreds of LGBT youth with no place to go. Washington Blade's Michael Lavers interviewed Thomas about volunteering over the holiday, as well as representatives from the center regarding their efforts to build a second shelter.

MSNBC's Thomas Roberts recently spoke with The New York Observer about his career path and landing at MSNBC, the stories that he's passionate about covering, and his upcoming wedding to his long-time love Patrick. Below is an excerpt from the story, which ran in today's paper:

"Mr. Roberts said, though, that he wasn’t especially inclined to cover gay stories because of his demographic profile, despite the ex post facto judgments of viewers. 'I think LGBT stories right now are newsmakers. So, no matter if you’re straight, gay or Martian, you’re going to be covering them. Because I am who I am, I can provide a different viewpoint, because people at home might know who I am or where I’ve come from—and that’s O.K.'"

MSNBC's Thomas Roberts will travel to Washington, DC this weekend to host the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network's annual dinner. According to SLDN Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis, this year's dinner is extra special for the organization, as it is both the 20th anniversary of the dinner and "the first year when lesbian, gay and bisexual active servicemembers will be able to attend the dinner, be out and not face fear of reprisal" (since the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell in September 2011).

Thomas, who Sarvis says has "been a force in the coverage of LGBT military servicemembers,'' sat down with DC-based publication Metro Weekly to talk about the evening and his hopes for the LGBT community in the future. You can read the full interview here.
